Overwhelmed? Facing thorny issues or information overload?  Maybe it’s time to take a break. While procrastination may be the problem – who among us hasn’t put off making difficult decisions until tomorrow? – I’ve found that taking a break has a startling effect, even BEFOREHAND.

Let me explain. As soon as I start to plan to take a holiday, vacation, or even an extended break, I resolve to clear my desk of any outstanding problems and watch the clutter and stress melt away. That way, I always returned refreshed.

This may explain a recent decision that required a break to gain new insight.

Over a dozen years ago, Gary Slywchuk, owner of Troy Media, and I met by chance at the Jasper Park Lodge. I was there having mistakenly accepted an invitation to deliver presentations to two conferences simultaneously – a scheduling error. When Gary and I met, we discussed his venture, and I agreed to help. Over the past several years, I, as an investor and advisor, have watched Troy Media evolve from an idea to a thriving enterprise.

Likewise, Gary has watched as the KEI Network – formerly the Alberta Council of Technologies Society – grew (through its newsletters and recent webinars) into a powerful Network of over 20,000 grappling with the forces and sources of change.

It probably should have been obvious from the start, but it was only recently that both of us realized there was synergy in our two enterprises. Recently, Troy has started to distribute KEI Network webinars across its network of Canadian news sites and to its media subscribers, numbering over 15,000 journalists – representing over 1,600 media outlets – across Canada.

And as of today, KEI will be including select articles drawn from Troy Media’s daily news feed in our newsletters. Enjoy!
