The War’s Impact on Canada and Energy

NEXT WEBINAR

Thursday MAY 5th

4:00PM MDT

Last week’s webinar featured a rebroadcast of the Conference Board of Canada’s podcast of Jane Boulden’s interview on “How the War in Ukraine is Disrupting the Rules-Based International Order”.  The broadcast was followed by intense discussion of how Putin’s War has caught the world’s attention with consequences few had forecast, and others yet to come:

  • testing of inter-national alliances and institutions
  • undermining nuclear and arms control agreements
  • deferred national commitments to climate change
  • disruption of supply channels relied upon for energy and minerals, food and fertilizer increasing the risk of economic recession and famine
  • increased spending for security/militarization.

The list goes on. As we come to understand the impact of the war on international affairs specifically Europe and Russia, little attention has been paid to the implications for Canada including both threats and opportunities.

The webinar this week will be a continuation of the discussion initiated last week digging deeper into the impact of the war on Canada, specifically energy.  We have asked Axel Meisen, Eric Newell, and Yogi Schultz to share their views and participate in a further public discussion.  Each may be familiar to you as they have participated in earlier discussions on energy and climate change.
