Thursday’s Zoomed Network webinar HERE – features a One on One Interview by Perry Kinkaide of Bill Whitelaw. The interview is timely given Ottawa’s announced “Just transition” and Alberta’s reaction concerning the implications on jobs in the energy sector. Bill Whitelaw is Managing Director, Strategy & Sustainability at geoLOGIC Systems Ltd. & JWN Energy. He is a director on many industry sector boards including the Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources and the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame. He speaks frequently on the subjects of social license, innovation and technology, and energy supply networks.

Tampering with carbon for energy is to invite controversy, conflict, and confusion. Net Zero sets “no-carbon for energy” as an objective. ALSO Alberta should just say “no” to “Just energy”  Today and well into the future, carbon as a source of energy is core to the global economy.  Carbon for energy is also the source of today’s geo-political uncertainties including the status of the environment.  Achieving a Net Zero future, a future of no carbon for energy, a future relying on renewables, is unattainable unless you envision a future featuring nuclear for energy, whether it be fission or fusion. Less carbon is achievable; Net Zero is not.

Recent media outlets report on the progress and advancements of OpenAI and its language models, while others criticize the company for its funding and its potential to contribute to technological unemployment. NUCLEAR FUSION 

Nuclear is regaining it’s social license with exciting news about SMRs and developments in fusion for energy.

Nuclear energy promises clean, reliable and safe source of energy that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Some however criticize nuclear energy for being costly and for its potential for nuclear accidents and the difficulty in managing nuclear waste. Media monitors the supply and demand of fossil fuels, concerns about global warming, and current advances in fusion and increasing interest in fission for energy. Messages about nuclear energy can be influenced by various factors such as the political leanings of the media source, the interests of its stakeholders, and public opinions on the issue. Personalized healthcare as the future of medicine, emphasizes its potential to provide tailored more precise treatments and improve patient outcomes. This approach highlights the benefits of using patient data and advanced technologies such as genomics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to create personalized healthcare solutions. On the other hand, others raise concerns about privacy and security of patient data, the cost of personalized healthcare, and the unequal access to these technologies across populations. CHANGE MANAGEMENT

Emerging technologies such as those cited above invite extreme perspectives, threats and opportunities, challenging the capacity of people and organizations, communities and economies to adapt. The rapid, broad, and impersonal feature of technology is cause to adjust, to change, to learn. The economic and social, professional and personal adjustments warranted take many forms, social and anti-social. Media messages often highlight the potential benefits of these technologies, such as increased efficiency and productivity, while others focus on the potential negative consequences, such as job loss and income inequality. These discussions often explore the ways in which these technologies are shaping various industries and societies, and the ways in which they are impacting people’s lives.

IMPACT AND REQUEST

We are monitoring how emerging technologies are driving change and their impact on people and society, the economy and geo-politics.  We  and our partner – Troy Media, want to interview advocates for change, the leaders and the victims of e.g.: climate change, identity politics, energy transitions, healthcare reform, regulatory overhaul. Share your concerns, insights and recommendations. We are seeking stories of how people are adapting or not to change and the organizations that are or are not helping. Advances in technologies continue to shape our future for good or for otherwise. Are we vulnerable?
