Last week’s webinar HERE – “High on Hydrogen,” featured a superb presentation by Dale Nally, Alberta’s Associate Minister of Natural Gas & Electricity. The follow-on commentary and discussion by Yogi Schulz, Bill Howell and Brent Lakeman added additional insight to the emergence of hydrogen as a commercially viable energy source and a growing role in petrochemicals. HERE is how hydrogen engine’s work. Highlights of the webinar follow:

• Alberta is taking hydrogen seriously as a new form of energy – green and reliable
• Alberta’s first hydrogen hub is about to kickstart the Edmonton Region’s low-carbon hydrogen economy and position the Region, Alberta and Canada for success as the world shifts towards a low-carbon future to address climate change
• Industry has announced multiple plants for the production of low-carbon hydrogen
• Hydrogen’s primary applications are in residential heating, transportation and petrochemicals
• Production byproducts of Green hydrogen are water and oxygen, both benign to the environment
• CO2 is a byproduct of Blue hydrogen production and is captured through various technologies
• Export markets for Alberta ammonia, a hydrogen carrier, include USA and Asia with distribution through rail and tanker
• Alberta’s advantages in hydrogen production are its significant natural gas resources, existing energy production and distribution infrastructure and engineering talent pool
• Safety, production and distribution costs are key for Alberta hydrogen to be cost-competitive with other suppliers, including Australia and the Middle East.

THE GREAT RESET

I have been blind to the emergence of a new reality termed THE GREAT RESET, an alignment of the forces and sources of change clearly articulated by the World Economic Forum, mobilized by it’s members, and boosted by the recent pandemic. The article “What is the Great Reset?”  provides a clear articulation of the movement’s origins, leaders, and goals. The author concludes:

The KEI Network  and it’s predecessor, the Alberta Council of Technologies Society, have been exploring the soical and economic impact of emerging and converging technologies and automated decision making, the role of government and globalization, climate change and energy transitions; Covid, inflation and supply chains. The Great Reset dismisses these events as anything but chaotic – that is, without cause or direction. The Great Reset is in fact a purposeful and powerful merging of the forces and source of change, a blending of socialism and capitalism, and pitting of “stakeholder capitalism” against “neoliberalism”.

My recommendation is for us all to read  “What is the Great Reset?” and join me on April 14th for a sober – and respectful, sharing of views. – Editor
