Will Reason, Reasonable, and Respect Return?

In the last few months we’ve been exploring the clash of public and private/personal interests: freedom of speech, the Israeli/Hamas conflict, Canada’s declining productivity, municipal governance, capital gains employed to mitigate wealth inequity. Agreement was evident from all interests – Canada is in the trouble – and is not alone. Reason has gone by the wayside.  So has respect.  Ideology prevails and violence out of frustration.

The problems are apparent with little disagreement. Where disagreement is apparent and where frustration is to the point of violence is with who/what to blame and therefore what measures should be employed to correct the problems? Listen – sure.  But act? Who will take the lead? Where are the mediators?

Rather than science or evidence, the argument of who to blame is polarized with government blaming market forces – ignoring its intervention in the market during COVID, and markets blaming government – citing the market’s structural problems warranting intervention. Confused – youth protest. But if truth be told, both are contributors.

Where is the mediator between extreme interests wanting more or less government, more or less taxation, regulation, immigration, intervention. And where is the evidence? We want facts and mediation, reason and respect – not ideology. – Editor@KEInetwork.net
