Last week's webinar on "Precision Health - the future of healthcare", is now posted HERE. Thank you, the presenter - David Anderson and panelists: Lawrence Richer, David McCabe, and Randy Duguay (PPT HERE) plus the audience for their questions, commentary, and insights.
Several takeaways stood out:
- Nature v nurture. The future of healthcare is more than just knowing DNA and RNA; lifestyle and environment count too, as does knowledge transfer
- Change management. The "system" required to advance innovation, that is, to expedite knowledge gained from the lab to healthcare, is highly regulated, expensive, and typically slow. Increasing involvement and expectations of the client is a significant force for expediting innovation.
- Data management. Precision health is ultimately all about data; the more that is known about the relationship between each person and their health, the more we rely on data and how it is managed: stored, transmitted, accessed, and interpreted. The governance of data management is the subject of our next webinar Thursday September 30th.
GOVERNING DATA MANAGEMENT |
Webinar - THURSDAY - September 30th 4:00PM MT |
Governing the management of data is of increasing concern worldwide given how easy it has become to access personal data - legally and otherwise: financial and health, biological and lifestyle. Customizing service and products to meet individual needs, wants, and wishes is called "personalization". It is full of promise, but caution is warranted as the price may be a loss of privacy and an increase in state control. The webinar on Governing Data Management will explore the rationale, option and development of data management standards and their enforcement.

Here's an update from the KEI Network, an Alberta-based communications and consulting agency that is hosting several webinars. Ever more intrusive technologies in infoTech and bioTech are reshaping the client/professional, customer/corporate, citizen/state relationship. Technologies enable the increased "personalization" of these relationships through the gathering of personal information for customizing services and products for individuals and/or for serving corporate and state interests in profit, ownership, and control. The September newsletters and webinars of the KEI Network feature an exploration of "personalization", its meaning and consequences. The KEI Network will also be hosting webinars on personalization in relation to health and data management:
Precision Health webinar (Posted) / Thursday, September 16th at 3:30pm MT / 5.30pm EST
Data Management webinar / Thursday, September 30th at 4:00pm MT / 6pm EST
