Perry Kinkaide as host presents the Municipal Survey results for Episode #1 of the 3 part series on Governing Communities. Episode #1. Governing Perspectives - From the Inside and Closest to the People covers the Survey's design and responses followed by a review of the 10 issues in governing communities today, their importance to Municipal CAOs and Councils, Regions (North, Central, South) and Jurisdictions (City, Town, Village, Rural). Perry presented the results of a survey on municipalities in Alberta, identifying key issues such as provincial downloading and grant cuts, role clarity and council direction. The team discussed the challenges faced by municipalities, including rising public expectations, urbanization, and the impact of provincial downloading, with a focus on the need for efficiency, effectiveness, and collaboration at all levels of government. The team also explored the complexities of surveying indigenous communities and the potential need for a separate surveys tailored to these communities and also Alberta's cities that were not well represented in the survey responses. Episode #2 was highlighted as a more indepth look at what the survey respondents revealthrough comments and recommendations about the issues for each Municipal relationship: Province, inter-Municipal, the Public, and Council itself.
