Exploring the Clash of Personal and Public Interests: KEI Network's Summer Programming
The KEI Network delves into the intricate and often contentious intersection of personal and public interests. In this isse, the launch of our summer programming, we reflect on the topics that have most captivated your attention. These are the subjects that have garnered the highest open rates for our newsletters and the most views for our webinar recordings.
Over the next 10 weeks, we will revisit the top 30 stories. Several explore enduring topics that represent unresolved conflicts. The persistence of these issues raises an important question - "Why?" Why can’t AI be slowed down? Why can’t public services be fixed? Why is the Canadian economy so unproductive? Why is attaining Net Zero so elusive? Why is there so much anger and protest? Why are personal and public interests so misaligned? What or who can soothe our collective unease?
Starting with #30 - see below, we will highlight three stories each week, culminating with the top 3 stories by the end of the summer. Take a moment and review the newsletters and associated video recordings. Share your thoughts. Are these clashes real? Are they growing or shrinking? Are they resolvable?

The webinar includes a humourous skit - "About Nothing", drawn from the Seinfeld episode followed by successive interviews including Mark Anielski - known for his study of happiness and the economy. The host then introduces a few avatars created by using Synthesia for each of the characters and ChatGPT for sourcing their insights. First is CHAT the comedian followed by the views of a panel comprised of a psychologist - Georgina, a physician - Patrick, and Theresa - an educator about comedy and role of humour in helping people laugh and think. George concludes the webinar posing 3 questions to the panelists citing several options for reducing anxiety and conflict through humour.
