Cries for transitioning to a patient-centric system go unheeded. Reform is warranted. People will not get service as long as the public system remains over-protected and over-valued.
Healthcare reform in a public system such as Canada is generally focused on supplier issues of policy, management, regulatory oversight, and money. It is also easier for media to draw attention to the failings of a single source - government, than to a market of multiple suppliers. But times are a changing.
The increasing focus of reform is on the system becoming patient-centric. A prime driver is technology, and how it is evolving to personalize treatment.
The media and the patient are enamored with emerging technologies that promise to make treatment more precise AND therefore more effective, e.g.: gene and cell therapies and giving the patient access to biometrics integrated with generative AI. In the later case, the technology allows the patient more influence over their treatment and prevention. The changes can be very threatenning by reversing the client-professional relationship and flipping the population/ public health to a pesonalized health system. That has proven to be intolerable to the status quo mindset of the current healthcare monopoly.
Patient-centric technology is an ally to both the supplier and the patient but warrants the operator, the governments to commit to transition from being the supplier, to being the patient protector, as the market regulator. FOR MORE join us this Thursday. - Editor, KEInetwork.net

Colin previously worked for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), a non-profit taxpayers’ watchdog organization. During his time with the CTF, he led the organization’s efforts to convince the federal government to draft and pass the First Nations Financial Transparency Act. Colin was also instrumental in exposing corruption during the construction of the City of Winnipeg’s police headquarters project. While working for the CTF in Alberta, he exposed and helped discontinue the City of Calgary’s golden retirement bonus scheme, helped reform council’s pension system (the mayor’s second pension is being phased out) and helped the CTF convince a majority of voters to vote “no” during Calgary’s Olympic bid plebiscite (2018). Colin has an MBA and a degree in economics from the University of Manitoba. He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee medal in 2022 by the Premier of Alberta. Colin is the author of “The Government Wears Prada” and contributed several chapters to the eBook Life After COVID. |
